Rachelle Bunch, Alto Magnolia Chorale, Class of 2017 Dirait-on is one of Morten Lauridsen's most accessible compositions that can be performed by many skill levels. It was composed in 1993, and as the class of 1998, I had the opportunity to sing it a few times in high school (with my High School Chamber Choir and for All-State). I've truly lost count of how many times I have sung this piece, but I will never forget the time I sang it in 2003. I was singing with Columbia Basin College's choral group, DeserTones. We were invited to share the Carnegie Hall stage with three other chamber groups from around the United States to do Lauridsen's Les Chansons des Roses (Rose Songs), which is five movements with lyrics from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. The fifth and final movement is Dirait-on. Every time I get the opportunity to sing any of the songs from this song cycle I will remember the time I stood on the Carnegie Hall stage (a dream come true to any singer). I look forward to performing this song again! Comments are closed.
