A message from the president
Dear Members of Magnolia Chorale,
I am delighted to announce that the Board of Directors has appointed Joseph To as the new music director for Magnolia Chorale. We are excited about the possibilities he brings to our choir.
Joseph is a vibrant conductor with a passionate commitment to music in the community. He serves as music director for multiple organizations, including the Norwegian Ladies Chorus of Seattle; Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, SeaTac; and the Tukwila School District, one of the most diverse school districts in the nation. He holds a master’s degree in choral conducting and a bachelor’s degree in music education. Interested in world music, especially Chinese choral music, Joseph has studied and presented Mandarin and Cantonese choral music and ethno-musicology implementation in secondary music education. He has received numerous grants and honors and serves as Co-Chair of the Racial Equity Committee of the Northwest GirlChoir.
The Board of Directors believes that Joseph’s wide range of musical interests and experience, musicality, energy, and enthusiasm will lead Magnolia Chorale into new territory. We value his commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As we move out of the worst of the pandemic challenges, we look forward, under his direction, to continuing our mission of bringing joy to our community through music.
I am also happy to advise that Jean-Marie has worked with Joseph previously and is pleased with this appointment. She looks forward to consulting with Joseph to prepare for the fall semester.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the audition in May, and thanks for your continued interest and support. We'll be in touch as plans firm up for celebrating Jean-Marie this summer, and welcoming our new director this fall.
