By Music Director Jean-Marie Kent I was blowin’ my wig putting together this program. One of the coolest memories I have of the Magnolia Chorale is performing Dancing Queen – I can’t wait to do it again! We’ll also be singing some gnarly music by the Beach Boys and groovy music by the Beatles. After the final episode of Mad Man, I thought it would be a big tickle to have the audience sing along with us on “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.” And you guys are going to love the new pop song arrangements that are streaming on Pandora now. Our featured guests are none other than Last Call, Evan Norberg’s vocal jazz group. They will blow your minds with their sweet harmonies. The thing that all of the songs in the program share is love. I never realized how much people’s love lives go up and down, off and on, back and forth…I was tweaking our upcoming spring program and realized that pop songs through the decades are about one of two things: being together with the greatest someone or being separated from that greatest someone. Obviously love, present or not, fuels our deepest emotions and gives us something to sing about. So once again, in January, we’ll be Happy Together. (Wait…why didn’t I choose that song?) Catch you later, dudes. |
