Patty McKeehan, Alto Magnolia Chorale, Class of 2013 The last time I sang “The Road Not Taken” was my junior year in high school. Sometime before that I bought a poster with a beautiful view of a forest and a brief bit of text at the bottom that read “Two roads diverged in a wood and I…I took the one less traveled by.” That line appealed to my rebel side and became my mantra. There was no attribution, so I had no idea where the quote came from. The next year, in a strange convergence of curriculum, we studied “The Road Not Taken” in Junior English and sang the Randall Thompson arrangement of the same, in choir. And wouldn’t you know, I found the source of my poster caption. It seemed like the fates were trying to tell me something. The words of the poem made me try to picture a day far in the future when I would be looking back at that other road “with a sigh.” And here it is “ages and ages hence” as I look forward to singing the piece again. I have to confess I’m not sighing about the road not taken…I’m trying to remember which road that was. Comments are closed.
