By Cindy Johnson, 2nd Alto, Magnolia Chorale I’m a relative newcomer, with just four concert semesters under my belt, but the first few rehearsals of this semester feel like what the good old Magnolia Chorale days must have been—bursting with energetic and talented songsters of all types! At the opening rehearsal, founding member Pat Gaffney presented us with a wonderful monetary gift from Ascension Arts recognizing the Magnolia Chorale as a worthy 501(c)3 group involved in Magnolia and the wider community. Our new president Catherine Middleton-Hardie gratefully accepted the donation on the Chorale’s behalf. That same night we welcomed 20 new members, a phenomenal record! Our second rehearsal brought 3 more new members, a pizza party, and more great singing under Joseph To’s creative hand and Zhanhong Kuang’s skilled accompaniment. As always, I feel both the excitement and trepidation of learning and doing justice to some beautiful and challenging songs. Can I really learn these? Will I mess up? Is my voice in good enough shape to pull this off? But this is just the beginning of the magic that happens when this passionate and versatile group of singers joins together to transform into a beautiful tuneful celebration of life to be shared with the community. How lucky can we get? Comments are closed.
