Pam Love, Soprano Magnolia Chorale, Class of 2015 My first memory of a live musical theater performance was at the Pentacle Playhouse in Salem, Oregon. One of my babysitters played a maid with high-piled hair and a short toga in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It was my first exposure to the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim. The opening number, where a pudgy Zero Mostel look-alike belts “Something familiar, something peculiar…”, ran through my head for weeks. It was thoroughly entertaining and a gateway drug to countless more musicals in my future. I’m overjoyed that Magnolia Chorale will be singing the opening song from A Funny Thing Happened …, the delightfully syncopated “Comedy Tonight.” With its clever lyrics and goofy melody line, it’s the perfect opener for our 2018 spring concert, “Seriously Carefree.” Comments are closed.
